Maj. Gen. Timothy Bevis

Tim Bevis joined the Royal Marines in 1982. He served as a company officer in 40, 42 and 45 Commandos in Northern Ireland, NATO, amphibious and environmental exercises. In 1993, he moved to Germany as an Armoured Infantry company commander, completing an operational tour of Bosnia.

After Advanced Command and Staff Course, he was in J3 at the Permanent Joint Headquarters. He was Staff Officer force evolution for ‘Commando 21’ and the Joint Rapid Deployment Force. In 2002, he took command of 45 Commando Group, covering Gulf War, fire fighters’ strike and Northern Ireland.

As a Colonel in MOD, he restructured Reserves and mobilised them. He was Deputy Commander Regional Command South in Afghanistan and then Fellow at Oxford, before becoming Chief of Staff to the UK Joint Forces Headquarters supporting operations world-wide. Later he returned to Afghanistan as Director Strategic Transition and Assessments at Headquarters ISAF and planned transition from NATO to Afghan-lead security.

In 2012, he commanded the Commando Training and the operational Amphibious Group, before moving to J3 at MOD, responsible for global and domestic operations. In Brussels, he is Director Operations and Planning Division, International Military Staff at NATO HQ.
