Tarek Abdelzaher

Prof Tarek Abdelzaher

Professor of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
Abdelzaher received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, USA, on Adaptive Real-time Systems in 1999. He is currently a Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Professor of Computer Science and a Willett Faculty Scholar at the University of Illinois, with over 350 refereed publications in Real-time Computing, Distributed Systems, Sensor Networks, and the Internet of Things, and an H-index of 95. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Real-Time Systems for 15 years, and as an Associate Editor of multiple journals including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks, ACM Transactions on the Internet of Things, and ACM Transactions on Internet Technology. He also chaired several top conferences in his field. Abdelzaher received the IEEE Outstanding Technical Achievement and Leadership Award in Real-time Systems (2012), a Xerox Research Award (2011), and several best paper awards. Since 2017, he leads the Internet of Battlefield Things Collaborative Research Alliance, a consortium of US institutions in collaboration with the US Army Research Labs, to advance the future intelligent tactical edge. He is a fellow of IEEE and ACM.
